With the outbreak of the anti-Japan war, all the banks across China set up their agencies in Chongqing as Nanjing Nationalist Government relocated west to Chongqing. As of 1939, there were 30 banks in Chongqing among which 23 banks with the greatest influence set up a Banking Association. From then on, Chongqing became the financial center back then.
